OFFICERS
PRESIDENT: Mary Woods
Mary and her husband Richard moved to The Villages in 2003. She began her teaching career in the Parsippany, NJ Community Schools preschool program. Upon moving to Raleigh, NC, Mary completed her college degree and then taught 4th and 5th grades. Next, Mary moved to Austin, TX, where she managed a program helping Welfare recipients to earn their GED. After moving to Boca Raton, FL, Mary began her administrative career at WorkForce One, a government program that manages the unemployment offices, and provides occupational skills training, and career counseling to the unemployed or underemployed. She retired as Executive Vice President. Mary’s daughter and her husband live in Greensboro, N C; her son and his wife live in Seattle, WA. Mary is active in several programs at St. Mark Church and in The Villages. She enjoys water aerobics, traveling, playing card games, and eating out.

VICE PRESIDENT: Renie Larson
Renie was born and raised in Kansas then moved to Michigan and called it home
for 37 years. After receiving her M.A. in Reading she worked with the Title 1
Reading Program in the Pinckney, Michigan Community School District before
becoming a classroom teacher in Stockbridge, Michigan. Over the span of her
career, Renie taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades and decided 3rd grade
was where she would spend the last 12 years of teaching. She was awarded
Walmart Teacher of the Year for her region in 2004. Renie and her husband,
Steve, bought their first snowbird home in The Villages in 2005. After both
retired in 2009, Renie and Steve moved to another home and are now frogs. Renie
enjoys traveling, dancing, cooking, entertaining and being politically and
socially active in the community.
RECORDING SECRETARY: CAROL
BUILTA
Carol moved to The Villages from Clinton, Illinois in April, 2008. She retired
in May, 2003, after thirty-three and a half years teaching second, third, and
fourth grades at Webster School in Clinton. Carol is active in Fidelis Beta
Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa and presently serves as chapter president. She's
also involved in several Rio Grande groups, Chatham Quilters, and Community
United Methodist Church. Carol enjoys both traditional and digital scrapbooking.
In her spare time, she enjoys reading and working Sudoku puzzles.
TREASURER: JOHN STENE
John moved to The Villages in January of 2003 following three and a half years full time RVing throughout the United States with his wife, Linda. He retired in the spring of 1999 as Professor of Mathematical Sciences after thirty-one years at Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota. His last position was Chairman of the Natural Sciences Division and Chairman of the Mathematics Department. John is involved with North Lake Presbyterian Church and a men's prayer group. John and his wife have a son, daughter-in-law, and grandson living in Shakopee, Minnesota. He enjoys reading, playing the piano, and traveling.
FINANCIAL SECRETARY
Gail moved to The Villages with her husband, Bob, from Chester, Virginia in June, 2010. She taught for over 31 years as a classroom teacher in Buffalo, New York and Houston, Texas; and as a Title I Reading and Mathematics teacher with at risk students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 in Chesterfield County, Virginia. In addition, she developed summer school and before-school programs for students, parent workshops, and teacher training. She was teacher of the year in two of the schools she served; presented at local, state and national reading conferences; and tutored students after school. She was involved with the Girl Scouts both as a leader and as a director in her community and received the Honor Pin in recognition of her service. Upon retirement, Gail served on numerous committees in her church; participated in several mission trips to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina; served on the Chesterfield County Historical Society Board; was a member of the Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights Christmas Mother Committee that provided needy families with food, clothing and gifts during the holidays; was given the honor of being the Christmas Mother for 2009; and mentored at risk middle school students. Gail and her husband (who is also a retired teacher) have a son and daughter who live in Virginia, and a daughter and her family who live in Raleigh, NC. They are blessed with 3 grandchildren, who enjoy riding in grandpa’s golf cart. Presently she is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (an honorary teacher organization), the Friends of the Villages Library and volunteers in the bookroom at the Pinellas Branch; The Original Virginia Club where she serves as treasurer; and The Bookworm Club to continue her passion for reading. She enjoys travelling with Bob to new places, working crossword and Suduko puzzles, playing cards, photography, and going to Disney World (she is an avid Mickey fan).
PAST PRESIDENT: BARBARA HAYS
BACKGROUND: Barbara bought her home in The Villages in 2004 and moved here
fulltime with her 2 dogs Ian and Reina in July 2007. Prior to retirement, she
was a professor of health information management and clinical data coding at
Northern Virginia Community College in Virginia. She participated in
implementing virtual interactive classes there. Earlier she taught at George
Washington University in Washington, D.C. as an instructor in quality
assurance. Many years of her career were focused in hospitals working as
Director of Health Information Management; her hospital sites were in
Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Nebraska. Barbara also was Vice President of
Quality Management and Program Evaluation in the physical medicine and
rehabilitation division of Tenet Healthcare Corporation, Director of
Classification and Coding for the American Health Information Management
Association and Principal of the Benchmark Group in Vienna, Virginia. Barbara
has a daughter Jessica and grandson Mason. Here in The Villages she loves
participating in water aerobics, a book club, church activities at New Covenant
United Methodist, and efforts to build a new performing arts center through VPAA.
